Horry Telephone Cooperative Selects Motorola Multi-Service Access Platform to Deliver “Connected Home” Applications

The Motorola solution enables HTC to offer advanced voice, video and data services to residential customers in Myrtle Beach, SC, and accommodate future growth.

ORLANDO. – 17 November 2004 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Horry Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (HTC), today announced that HTC will leverage the Motorola Multi-Service Access Platform to deliver advanced “connected home” services to communities developed by Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc., a major Horry County, SC real estate developer.

The announcement was made at the TelcoTV Show (Orlando, 16-18 November 2004, Booth #400), where Motorola is demonstrating its service delivery solutions for the connected home.

Motorola’s platform provides HTC with a foundation for the delivery of advanced “services including high-end video services, high-speed data, and telephony to Myrtle Beach residents. Supporting both existing and next-generation services, Motorola’s integrated and stand-alone Passive Optical Networking (PON) solutions deliver a full range of narrowband and broadband services to homes, businesses and remote terminals. Most importantly, PON provides the necessary bandwidth to deliver the triple play of voice, video and data to residential customers over a cost-effective FTTP network.

“This is an outstanding example of three leaders in their respective markets teaming to deliver a first-of-kind service for consumers,” said Michael Hagg, president, Horry Telephone Cooperative. “The Motorola platform enables us to cost-effectively and efficiently deploy fiber to the home, offer advanced high-value services, and easily accommodate future expansion – both in subscribers and services.”

“Horry Telecom’s aggressive rollout to two Burroughs & Chapin Myrtle Beach communities is a milestone – marking the first fiber-to-the-home deployment in the region,” said Bruce Swail, Motorola corporate vice president and general manager, telecom access solutions. “Horry’s decision to roll out voice, video, and data broadband services dictates the need for an architecture that can not only work in conjunction with existing network infrastructure, but also can accommodate the addition of new services, and scale to meet subscriber base growth down the road. The Motorola platform makes this possible.”

The Motorola Telecom Access Solutions business enables telecommunication service providers to deliver revenue-generating “connected home” applications to consumers and businesses.
