Motorola Wins SUPERQuest Awards for Most Promising New Technologies in 2005
Canopy™ Platform receives Continuous Achievement Award; Global Applications Management Architecture named runner-up in Application Layer Systems
ARLINGTON HTS., Ill. – May 23, 2005 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) has been honored for its leadership in innovation by SUPERCOMM for its Canopy Wireless Broadband Platform, which has just won the 2005 SUPERQuest Award for Continuous Achievement. Motorola’s Global Applications Management Architecture (GAMA) Release 1.0 also was recognized as the runner-up in Application Layer Systems, Related Equipment and Technologies. Both awards were given in the Most Promising New Technologies in 2005 category.
The SUPERQuest Awards are the pre-eminent honor given to communications and IT product and service manufacturers for superior achievement in public and private network design and operations. The awards are held in conjunction with SUPERCOMM 2005 and will be presented during the show at McCormick Place in Chicago from Jun. 6-9. SUPERQuest winners are chosen by a panel of judges, which includes industry-leading technology press, analysts and other experts.
The SUPERQuest Award for Continuous Achievement honors the one product or portfolio that has shown a noticeable evolution over at least a three-year period. Motorola introduced its license-exempt 5 GigaHertz (GHz) Fixed Broadband wireless Canopy product in June 2002 for North America and has expanded its portfolio to include four additional license-exempt spectrum products. The Canopy Platform has achieved broad commercial success with the Canopy point-to-point and point-to-multipoint system configurations being deployed in more than 100 countries around the world.
“Motorola is committed to creating the open technology platforms that will enable operators to quickly and cost-effectively evolve their networks and offer new in-demand broadband services to their customers,” said Adrian Nemcek, executive vice president of Motorola, Inc. and president of Motorola Networks. “This recognition from SUPERCOMM validates we’re delivering the innovation necessary to help operators easily integrate diverse network technologies, applications and devices, as well as bring new, advanced applications to their customers.”
Motorola’s Canopy wireless broadband is an always-on, high-speed broadband solution for cost-effective connectivity to private networks, such as governments or enterprises and to Internet service providers and carriers. The Canopy system is a scalable, robust, reliable platform that supports high demand broadband applications. Its superior performance promises one of the lowest total costs of ownership and can significantly reduce a provider's start-up, maintenance and leased-line costs.
Motorola’s GAMA Release 1.0 helps wireless network service providers and application developers to rapidly develop, deploy and manage rich mobile data services and content. The scaleable, reliable system - which includes service delivery and management functions - integrates with existing network service enablers such as Short Message Service Centers (SMSC), Multi-media Messaging Service Centers (MMSC), content and application platforms, and business support systems such as billing while reducing the total cost of ownership associated with new service deployment. In addition, the platform is both network bearer and device independent so that new hardware and services can be added or upgraded on existing networks and devices (including JAVA™, WAP and legacy phones).
Motorola will showcase its award-winning Canopy solution, along with other wireless and wireline network offerings, including Motorola IPTV, enhanced enterprise solutions, home entertainment, and communications servers, during SUPERCOMM in booth #48039.
