Westcon Brasil and Motorola’s Wireless Broadband Division Sign Distribution Agreement
Westcon Expands Wireless Offerings to Enterprise Customers by Adding Canopy™ Portfolio SÃO PAULO -- June 7, 2005 -- Westcon Brasil and Motorola, Inc. (MOT) today announce that Westcon Brasil, a specialty distributor of networking and communications technology products and a subsidiary of Westcon Group, Inc., and Motorola’s Wireless Broadband Division have signed an agreement enabling Westcon to distribute Canopy wireless broadband products in the Brazilian market.
Motorola’s Canopy solutions provide Westcon resellers access to a cost-saving, reliable wireless broadband communications alternative for the enterprise market.
“Through this agreement, we are able to deliver solutions from a leader in wireless communications, complementing our convergence and IP network infrastructure offerings”, said Otavio Lazarini Barbosa, General Manager of Westcon Brasil. “For our resellers, this provides and increased opportunity to purse market niches, such as digital security monitoring, the implementation of long distance communication systems in rural areas and the installation of metropolitan networks in small cities for data transmission.”
Private network operators, carriers and service providers can benefit from Motorola’s Canopy products, which are field-proven, robust, and cost-effective wireless Ethernet solutions that can be used to transport data, voice and Internet protocol video between buildings or to devices, such as cameras. Canopy fixed wireless access products offer high speed connectivity to corporations and residential users alike in rural, metropolitan or residential regions where cable or fiber optic services are limited or cost prohibitive to install. Private network operators can realize cost savings by using a single E1/T1 connection from the telecom operator and extending it to multiple buildings.
“The new distribution agreement gives Motorola an opportunity to sell its Canopy portfolio in the IP solutions market – one that Westcon has distinguished performance in Brazil,” said Sal LoSchiavo, worldwide channel director for Motorola’s Wireless Broadband Business.
“We are very pleased with this agreement, which broadens business opportunities in the network arena for Westcon sales channel. Motorola’s Canopy solution provides security and flexibility for wireless IP networks, delivering quality of service at the same time,” says Valério Madeira Coelho, president director of Solin, a Westcon reseller.
