Motorola Showcases Broadscape™ Solutions for Next Generation Cable Networks at SCTE 2005

The company demonstrates a complete suite of solutions that embrace the open requirements of the evolving cable industry

SAN ANTONIO, Tx. – 15 June 2005 – At the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers Cable-Tec Expo (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio), Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) will showcase the company’s portfolio of “next-generation” Broadscape™ network solutions, working together to deliver new, revenue-generating experiences that inform, connect, and entertain.

As consumer demand grows for new, broadband connected devices in and around the home, the cable network must evolve to an environment of open standards and interoperability among technologies from multiple vendors. Broadscape™ is a portfolio of solutions designed for this new world, offering reliable, best-in-class Motorola broadband technology at every point along the end-to-end network path.

These voice, video, data, and network infrastructure solutions embrace open and emerging standards, such as Internet Protocol (IP), OCAP (open cable applications platform), MPEG-4, PacketCable™ Multimedia (PCMM), and DOCSIS® modular CMTS, among others. This offers cable operators the freedom to pick and choose the components that work best to drive their particular business model, and the confidence to know that each piece will work with the rest.

“Motorola’s connected home vision will enable richer consumer experiences through the seamless flow of information and entertainment across multiple user devices. The Broadscape™ solutions we are demonstrating at SCTE show how we have developed a complete set of tools to help cable operators deliver on that promise,” said Dan Moloney, president, Motorola Connected Home Solutions. “Motorola brings a unique and deep understanding of the broadband technologies present at every point along the end-to-end network chain. By our embracing open standards support in each of these solutions, cable operators can now pick and choose where to best leverage our experience as they plan their business strategies.”

Yet Motorola Broadscape™ is not just about tomorrow’s network. At Booth # 6086, Motorola will showcase next-generation technologies working alongside the company’s current, tried-and-true digital cable solutions, painting a picture of how operators can leverage their existing network investments while preparing for the future.

The Motorola solutions will include:

• Video solutions that demonstrate how Motorola is evolving its industry leading consumer premise technologies to support new and emerging network architectures.
• Voice solutions for the home or enterprise that provide the quality of service necessary to create communications experiences that span wired and wireless networks.
• Software tools, built on Motorola’s core expertise in set-top system software, which can be licensed and leveraged by operators and third-party developers.
• IP-based video processing and network solutions that dramatically expand available bandwidth – making possible whatever services come next.

Editors Note: A complete description of specific demonstrations follows in the attached fact sheet.

Motorola Broadscape™ brings together the network, broadband devices and software solutions that enable operators to realize their short- and long-term strategies for deploying advanced services.
