Motorola Receives Its Largest Ever Home Location Server Order First deal signed in the MEA region for Motorola Home Location Server (HLS) with a 20 million subscriber capacity
BARCELONA, Spain – 3GSM World Congress - 13 February 2006 – Motorola (NYSE: MOT) has signed a major deal with Orascom Pakistan (Mobilink) to replace its existing legacy home location register (HLR) with Motorola’s home location server (HLS). The HLS is a highly reliable, next generation home location register that simplifies the network, resulting in lower capital and operating expenses than a traditional switch-based solution. It is highly scalable and will also offer added capacity to fulfill Mobilink requirements to cope with subscriber growth and demands for new applications.
This implementation on the Mobilink network follows a successful trial and represents Motorola’s largest ever HLS order, ultimately giving Mobilink a capacity to manage up to 20 million subscribers. Mobilink currently serves almost 13 million customers.
“This latest win confirms our ongoing commitment to providing operators with innovative technology to enable them to easily replace and upgrade their HLR capacity to support subscriber growth needs at reduced capital and operating expenses. Motorola endeavors to ensure that operators in emerging markets get the most out of every function and resource in their network,” said Ali Amer, MENAPAK director of sales, Motorola Networks.
“The size and scope of this HLS deployment confirms Motorola’s role as a leading provider of Core infrastructure and end-to-end solutions. Mobilink is now positioned to evolve its network into 3G and IMS, and further capitalize on the growth opportunities that additional service-enabling platforms will provide,” he added.
The Motorola HLS solution consolidates silos of subscriber data into a single subscriber-centric database, providing Mobilink with the ability to rollout new services and provision subscribers in a faster and more cost effective manner. Reliability, high performance, high capacity and smooth scalability are inherent features of the offered platform, which can be smoothly upgraded to support 3G/UMTS as well as the emerging IMS HSS functionality.
“Having a resilient, scalable and functionality-rich solution that reduces complexity and total cost of ownership while speeding up new service deployment was Mobilink’s objective and Motorola delivered in record time. This HLS solution enables us to manage a subscriber base that is virtually double that of our current capacity quickly and cost effectively,” said Marwan Hayek, chief technology officer, Mobilink.
“With the new HLS solution in place, we can now focus on our subscriber’s wants and needs, because Motorola HLS offers open access to real-time customer insight,” he added.
