Motorola’s PTP 25600 Strengthens Educational Experience with Secure, Reliable Solution
Wireless broadband technology enables advanced educational applications
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – 13 September 2007 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it would expand its MOTOwi4™ offerings with the PTP 25600 model of Fixed Point-to-Point Wireless Ethernet Bridges. The PTP 25600 is a 2.5 GHz solution that provides Educational Broadband Service (EBS) license holders secure and reliable bandwidth to enable sophisticated learning tools such as complete wireless access to online courses, research and educational information. The PTP 25600, part of Motorola’s comprehensive portfolio of wireless broadband solutions, is currently available in the U.S.
In 2004 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established the EBS with the primary purpose being transmission of instructional material utilizing broadband systems while also providing high-speed Internet access. PTP 25600 is an ideal solution for academic institutions and corporate training centers to support and advance their EBS programs.
“The ability to provide wireless internet access and distance learning to our students is the objective of our EBS initiative,” Derrick Hoffman, senior systems engineer, Thompson School District in Loveland, Colorado. “We have had great success with Motorola's 5.8 GHz product on our existing network, and as a 2.5 GHz license holder, we look forward to Motorola's 2.5 GHz solution to offer reliable, high bandwidth connectivity to our schools throughout the county. Additionally, we are excited about the product's GPS synchronization feature which will allow us to co-locate more than one radio on a rooftop and reduce self interference.”
This award winning, proven technology supports applications including backhaul and broadcast communications, last-mile access and distance-learning productivity. Additionally, the PTP 25600 allows EBS license holders to reach their audience with Internet access and e-mail, voice over IP (VoIP), video streaming and video surveillance connectivity.
Equipped with a robust feature set including Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), Intelligent Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (i-OFDM) and Advanced Spectrum Management, the PTP 25600 includes a new synchronization feature which utilizes GPS technology to synchronize multiple transmitters. Additionally, efficient frequency reuse permits the co-location of multiple radios on a rooftop or tower simplifying overall network design. This powerful combination of leading edge technology enables the PTP 25600 to provide higher throughput, lower latency and longer reach than currently available 2.5 GHz fixed wireless products plus it adds non line of sight (NLoS) capability.
The PTP 25600 is a ‘rebanded’ version of the proven 5.4 and 5.8 GHz PTP 600 family of Point-to-Point Wireless Ethernet Bridges, a licensed variant of the existing, award winning PTP technology which is currently the global market share leader. The PTP 25600 bridges can maintain up to 99.995% availability in non-line-of-sight environments, across long-distance line-of-sight paths and over water or open terrain, to provide connectivity virtually anywhere.
This product offering is designed to be easily integrated with other MOTOwi4 solutions, including Fixed Broadband, WiMAX, Mesh, Broadband Over Powerline (BPL) and enterprise WLAN for public and private networks. All of the MOTOwi4 solutions enable network operators to create, complement, and complete cost-effective, reliable IP networks.
Motorola will host an online educational forum on October 10 to assist 2.5 GHz license holders develop and implement their EBS initiatives. For more information visit www.motorolaptp.com/products/ptp600.php
