Hancock Telephone Selects Motorola Multi-Service Access Platform to Deliver ‘Telco TV’ Video Offerings

Leveraging the Motorola solution, Hancock Telephone is the first wireline service provider in the region to offer video services over existing twisted pair wiring.

HORSHAM, Pa. – 09 December 2004 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced that Hancock Telephone, an independent telephone company serving communities in upstate New York and Pennsylvania, has selected the Motorola Multi-Service Access Platform for the delivery of voice, video and data services to residential and business customers. With the selection, Hancock Telephone establishes a clear competitive differentiator as one of the first operators within its markets to offer voice, video, and data services over twisted pair wiring.

Motorola’s standards-based end-to-end access solution will enable Hancock to accommodate future subscriber growth, as well as add complementary broadband services. These services can open substantial new windows of opportunity for decreasing subscriber churn rates and increasing revenue per user – today and in the future. Additionally, the Motorola platform will provide Hancock Telephone, parent company to Hancock Cable TV and Pronet ISP, with the ability to execute on its long term strategy of collapsing all three network types into a single, fully-integrated solution.

“By using Motorola’s end-to-end multi-service solution, we achieve significant savings associated with the operational cost of supporting multiple different network types,” said Rob Wrighter Jr., director of operations, Hancock Telephone. “Hancock Telephone is also using Motorola to enable its Cable Television operations, which provides the ability to leverage our service offerings across both HFC and xDSL networks.”

“Motorola is committed to providing end-to-end broadband solutions that support the business needs of our customers, regardless of their network architecture,” said Bruce Swail, Motorola corporate vice president and general manager Telecom Access Solutions. “We are pleased to work with Hancock Telephone as they develop the infrastructure to bring advanced triple play services into their communities.”

Motorola offers telecom service providers multiple options for delivering applications over a variety of network architectures and access platforms, including xDSL, Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP), Passive Optical Networks (PON), Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC), and broadband wireless access networks. Motorola’s broad technology portfolio includes digital video, high-speed data, voice services, and consumer premise applications that have been deployed in millions of households globally. The company’s Multi-Service Access platform delivers over 700,000 streams of digital video over xDSL, representing over 90% of North American Telco TV subscribers.
