Meet Dr. David W. Kravitz

Dr. David W. Kravitz joined Motorola in February, 2005 as a Fellow of the Technical Staff in the Security Technology Lab. He is currently specializing in Digital Rights Management (DRM). His previous experience in DRM includes positions as Chief Scientist at Wave Systems Corp. and Chief Scientist, Security Systems, at Digital Video Express (DIVX). Prior to that, he worked in Electronic Commerce as Vice President at CertCo (formerly Bankers Trust Electronic Commerce), and Senior Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL).

His extensive research and development activities in cryptographic system-, protocol- and algorithm- design and analysis include positions held at SNL and as Senior Technical Advisor at the National Security Agency (NSA). During an NSA sabbatical at the Institute for Defense Analyses - Center for Communications Research, Princeton, Dr. Kravitz invented the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) which forms the basis of the original U.S. Digital Signature Standard (DSS) (FIPS PUB 186). He is named on nine additional U.S. patents.

Dr. Kravitz earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering - Systems from the University of Southern California, 1982, under Dr. Irving S. Reed ("The Application of Finite Polynomial Rings to Number Theoretic Crypto-Systems"), M.A. in Mathematical Sciences from Johns Hopkins University, 1978 ("An Efficient Numerical Model of Estuarine Circulation"), and B.S. in Mathematics from Rutgers University, 1977 ("General Representation Theory and the Geometry of the Irreducible Representations of the Symmetric Group").
