1. What is the quickest way to access my features?

The phone allows you to access features such as messaging and pictures quickly by using the Shortcut Key.

  • To send a message:
    From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Create Message
  • To take a picture:
    From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Take Picture
  • To set an alarm:
    From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Set Alarm
  • To change clock style:
    From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Clock Style

2. How can I extend the battery life of my phone?

  • To extend battery life:
    Avoid excessive opening and closing of the blade, as each rotation activates the display.
  • Turn off Bluetooth® power when you're not using it:
    Press Menu > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, press Options > Setup Bluetooth > Bluetooth Power
  • Offset your display to turn off sooner:
    Press Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Display Settings > Display Timeout > 5 Seconds
  • Turn off your screensaver:
    Press Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Display Settings > Screensaver > Off
  • Reduce the display brightness:
    Press Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Display Settings > Brightness, and select a lower number setting

3. How do I copy my SIM contacts to my phone?

  • To copy SIM contacts to the phone:
    1. Press the Center Select Key
    2. Scroll to and select Phonebook
    3. Press Options
    4. Scroll to and select Import Contacts
    5. Scroll to and select SIM Card
    6. Press Options
    7. Scroll to and select Select All
    8. Press Import

4. How can I use Vufone service on my phone?

Vufone service lets you use a personal Web portal to manage your phone's personal data (contacts, calendar, documents, messages) and multimedia files (photos, videos, music). You can back up and edit your contacts and calendar on the Web portal, upload and share your media files on the Web, and restore your phone's data and media files from the Web portal.

  • To Back Up Your Phone:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Office Tools
    3. Scroll to and select Vufone
    4. Scroll to and select Synchronize
    5. Press Options
    6. Scroll to and select Settings
    7. Select the types of content you want to synchronize between your phone and Web portal.
  • To Upload Media Files:
    To upload photos, videos, or music to your Web portal, you must select these file types for synchronization. Tip: You can also selectively choose files to upload.
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Office Tools
    3. Scroll to and select Vufone
    4. Scroll to and select Upload Files
    5. Choose the categories of files you want to upload: Images, Video, Music, and/or Docs.
    6. Press Options
    7. Scroll to and select Upload (copy) or Upload & Delete (move) your files to the Vufone Web site.
  • To Move Files From an Old Phone:
    Use Vufone to move phonebook contacts, calendar, photos, videos, and music from your old phone to your new phone.
    1. Insert your SIM card in your old phone.
    2. Use your computer browser to log onto the Vufone Web site at www.vufone.com.
    3. Select Download Mobile Application to send the Vufone application to the old phone in a text message.
    4. When you receive the text message on the old phone, select the link in the message to download and install the Vufone application on the phone.
    5. Open the Vufone application on the old phone, then press Options > Settings to select the types of content you want to back up.
    6. Select Backup to upload the selected files to your Vufone Web portal.
    7. Remove the SIM card from the old phone and insert it in your new phone.
    8. Open the Vufone application on your new phone, and select Restore to transfer the files to the new phone.

5. How can I personalize my phone?

There are many things you can do to personalize the display of your phone. You can change the clock style, wallpaper, screensaver, and Home Screen shortcuts on your phone.

  • Clock Style
    Change the clock style that appears in the display when the blade is closed:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Home Screen
    4. Scroll to and select External Clock Style
    5. Select desired clock style

    Shortcut: From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Change Clock.
  • Wallpaper
    Change the background wallpaper image that appears in the home screen when the blade is open:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Home Screen
    4. Scroll to and select Graphics and Wallpaper
    5. Scroll to and select Preloaded Wallpaper
    6. Scroll to and select an image
  • To apply a photo as a wallpaper image:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Multimedia
    3. Scroll to and select Pictures
    4. Scroll to and select Captured Pictures
    5. Scroll to the desired photo
    6. Press Options
    7. Scroll to and select Apply To
    8. Scroll to and select Wallpaper
  • To resize a wallpaper photo so it displays at the correct size:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Themes
    4. Press Options
    5. Scroll to and select Edit
    6. Press the Navigation Key right to select the images tab
    7. Press the Navigation Key down to scroll to Wallpaper Layout, then press OK to select it.
    8. Scroll to and select Fit-To-Screen
    9. Press Save to save the setting
  • Screensaver
    Change the screensaver image that appears in the display when the blade is open, after a period of inactivity:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Multimedia
    3. Scroll to and select Graphics and Wallpapers
    4. Scroll to and select Preloaded Wallpaper
    5. Scroll to the desired image
    6. Press Options
    7. Scroll to and select Apply To
    8. Scroll to and select Screensaver

    Tip: To extend battery life, turn off the screensaver.

Home Screen Shortcuts: From the home screen, you can press the navigation key up, down, left, or right as shortcuts to your favorite features. You can change the shortcuts to suit your needs:

  • To change navigation key shortcut icons in the home screen:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Home Screen
    4. Scroll to and select Navigation Keys
    5. Scroll to Left, Right, Up, or Down
    6. Choose the feature you want to open when you press the navigation key in that direction.
  • To show or hide navigation key shortcut icons in the home screen:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Home Screen
    4. Scroll to and select Navigation Keys
    5. Scroll to and select Icon Display
    6. Scroll to and select Show or Hide

  • Note: You can press the Navigation Key to select the features in the home screen even when the icons are hidden.

6. How can I send or receive a message?

A message can contain text and pictures, sounds, or other media objects. You can add multiple pages to a message and put text and media objects on each page. You can send a message to other compatible phones or to email addresses.

  • To Send a Message:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Messages
    3. Scroll to and select Create Message
    4. Shortcut: From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Create Message
    5. Press keypad keys to enter text on the page
  • To insert a picture, sound, or other media object on the page:
    1. Press Options > Insert
    2. Select the file type and the file

    Note: File size restrictions may apply to pictures and video sent in a message.
  • To insert another page:
    1. Press Options > Insert > Page.
      You can enter more text and objects on the new page. When you finish the message: Press Options > Sending Options to set message options (such as Subject and Priority).
      When you finish setting message options, press done. Press Send To select message recipients. You can:
      • Select one or more entries from your contact list (press the Navigation Key to scroll to an entry, and press OK to select it)
      • Enter a new number or email address (press Options > Enter Number or Enter Email)
      • Press Send to send the message
  • To Receive a Message
    • When you receive a text message, your phone plays an alert and shows New Message. The text message indicator appears at the top of the home screen.
    • To read the message, press View.
    • If the message contains media objects: Pictures and animations show as you read the message.
    • Sound files play as you read the message. Press the volume keys on the side of your phone to change the sound volume.
    • Attached files are added to the end of the message. To open an attachment, select the file indicator or file name. To answer the message, press Options > Reply.

7. How can I copy and sync music to my phone?

Copying and syncing music between your phone and computer is easy, with Microsoft® Windows® Media Player 11.

  • To load song files from a music CD onto your computer:
    1. Insert the music CD in your computer's CD drive.
    2. Open Windows Media Player 11.
    3. Copy the music CD to the media player library (also called ripping the CD).
    4. If your computer is connected to the Internet, the media player may retrieve CD information, such as song titles, album name, artist name, and album artwork. This information will display in your phones music player.
      Tip: You can also purchase Microsoft® Windows Media DRM-protected music files from supported on-line music stores (such as Urge, Yahoo, and Napster).

Get Music Note: You'll need Windows Media Player 11 to synchronize music files as described in this section. Using previous versions of Windows Media Player may compromise your music experience. You can download Windows Media Player 11 at www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia.

You can't use Windows Media Player 11 to copy pictures or videos to the phone. On Your Phone:

  1. Press Menu
  2. Scroll to and select Settings
  3. Scroll to and select USB Settings
  4. Scroll to and select Media Synchronization
  5. Attach a Motorola Original USB cable to the micro USB port on your phone and to an available USB port on your computer

Some phone functions are temporarily unavailable when a USB connection is active. On Your Computer Open Windows Media Player 11.

  1. Your phone appears in the upper right corner of the Windows Media Player 11 screen
  2. The phones music files are listed on the left side of the screen
  3. Select the Sync tab in Windows Media Player 11
  4. Drag and drop songs or playlists onto the Sync List on the right side of the Windows Media Player 11 screen
  5. Click Start Sync to copy the songs onto the phone
  6. When you finish, disconnect your phone from the computer.

Note: The unauthorized copying of copyrighted materials is contrary to the provisions of the Copyright Laws of the United States and other countries. This device is intended solely for copying non-copyrighted materials; materials in which you own the copyright, or materials that you are authorized or legally permitted to copy. If you are uncertain about your right to copy any material, please contact your legal advisor.

8. How can I use call features such as call waiting, or call forwarding?

  • Call Waiting
    1. When you're on a call, you'll hear an alert if you receive a second call.
    2. Press SEND Key to answer the new call
    3. To switch between calls, press Switch
    4. To connect the two calls, press Link
    5. To end the call on hold, press Options > End Call On Hold.
  • To Make another call during a call:
    1. Press Options
    2. Scroll to and select New Call
    3. Press Options
    4. Scroll to and select Browse Contacts
  • Conference Call
    1. During a call, dial next number, press the SEND Key
    2. Press Options > Link Calls
  • Transfer a Call
    1. During a call, press Options > Transfer Call
    2. Dial transfer number
    3. Press the SEND Key
  • Call Forwarding
    Set up or cancel call forwarding:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Call Settings
    4. Scroll to and select Call Forward
    5. Select desired option
    6. Enter phone number to forward to.
  • Call Barring
    Allows you to restrict outgoing or incoming calls:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Call Settings
    4. Scroll to and select Call Barring

9. How can I connect to a compatible Bluetooth enabled headset or car kit?

Before you try to connect your phone to a Bluetooth device for the first time, make sure the device is on and you know the proper steps to place it in pairing or bonding mode (see the device user’s guide). You can connect your phone with only one device at a time.

  • To connect to a Bluetooth device:
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Settings
    3. Scroll to and select Connections
    4. Scroll to and select Bluetooth
    5. Press Options
    6. Place your Bluetooth accessory in pairing mode
    7. Scroll to and select Search For Device
    8. Scroll to and select Headset
    9. Your phone lists the Bluetooth audio devices it finds within range
    10. Scroll to a device in the list
    11. Press OK to connect with the highlighted device

10. How can I take a picture with my phone?

  • To Take a Photo
    1. Press Menu
    2. Scroll to and select Camera

    Shortcut: From the home screen, press Shortcuts > Take Picture.

The phone display acts as the camera viewfinder.

Note: Because of your phone's round display, the viewfinder doesn't show the edges of the rectangular image that is captured when you take a photo.
