CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world, and we are working to be part of the solution.

Reducing our climate impact is good for the environment and makes good business sense. Taking action helps us cut energy costs and prepares us for expected regulations.

We contribute to climate change through the energy we use to operate our buildings and equipment and to transport our people and products. We also contribute through the activities of suppliers who make our products and through the energy consumed when people use our products.

Motorola supports global mandatory greenhouse gas emission reductions by at least 50 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

Our climate strategy
We have launched a strategy to reduce the climate impact of our operations and products. This includes absolute and normalized goals to:

• Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions from our operations by 15 percent per million dollars of sales by 2010, compared with 2005
• Reduce our absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 6 percent by 2010, compared with 2000 to meet our Chicago Climate Exchange commitment
• Increase our purchase of electricity from renewable sources to 20 percent in 2010 and 30 percent in 2020

We will achieve these reductions by:

• Improving energy management at our operations
• Using more renewable energy

We are assessing the lifecycle climate impacts of our products, making our products more energy efficient and developing alternative energy sources.

Our long-term goal is to measure and reduce the climate impact of our supply chain. We are working with the Global e-Sustainability Initiative, an industry collaboration, to develop a method to measure supplier emissions.
