Community investment: Case studies
Project Hope: Supporting education in China Initiated by the China Youth Development Foundation in 1989, Project Hope is a social welfare program aimed at mobilizing non-governmental financial resources inside and outside of China. It offers financing for the education of children who have dropped out of school in China's rural areas and children of migrant farmers working in cities, and guarantees their right to complete all compulsory education courses. Project Hope also contributes towards improving teaching conditions and promoting the development of basic education in China.
Since 1994, Motorola China has given substantial donations to Project Hope, created the Motorola Hope Schools, provided teaching equipment, trained school teachers and instigated the Motorola Hope Tour. We are proud to have accomplished the following through our donations and commitment to this important project:
Provided financial assistance to more than 13,000 children to help them complete their schooling Constructed 100 primary schools in 25 provinces Established six sample Web schools, which are multi-media classrooms designed to synchronize teaching with model schools in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai Set up 25 multi-media language labs inside existing schools using standard low-frequency wireless teaching equipment Established the Hope Library and Sanchen Movie Library inside 30 schools Trained more than 900 Motorola Hope schoolteachers Funded 600 "Motorola Hope Stars" to complete a 3- to 4-year education in senior high school or college
The Motorola Foundation in the U.S. has made generous donations to Project Hope. Motorola employees also support this effort through volunteer work and substantial personal donations.
We created the Motorola Hope Tour, which is a campaign to further the efforts of Project Hope. Under the leadership of top company executives, Motorola's Hope Tour team visits underdeveloped areas throughout China to learn more about the local conditions and to encourage community support for the project.
Our support of China's Project Hope has received high acclaim from the Central Committee of Chinese Youth League and the China Youth Development Foundation. Read more about Project Hope at:
