Motorola joins humanitarian organizations to address critical needs of communities around the world.
2009 global disaster relief support In the wake of the devastation wrought by April's earthquake in L'Aquila, Italy, and the surrounding area, the Motorola Foundation has donated $50,000 to the Italian Red Cross, and our Motorola Italy team has provided radio equipment to aid first-responder agencies.
In March, the Foundation provided US$25,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster recovery in areas affected by the Red River Valley flooding near Fargo, North Dakota.
The Motorola Foundation and its employees donated US$46,000 to the Australian Red Cross to provide relief in communities destroyed by the February bush fires in Victoria, Australia.
2008 disaster relief In 2008, Motorola, its employees and the Motorola Foundation provided $3.9 million in cash and equipment to support disaster relief efforts around the world.
As the number one provider of mission-critical communications technology around the world, we can respond quickly in times of crisis to help restore the safety and security that communication brings. We supported relief efforts for disasters around the world and critical community needs, including:
China earthquake support: Provided $3.29 million in cash, in-kind support and clothing after a devastating earthquake in China's Sichuan Province. The in-kind donations of $1.8 million included mobile networking equipment, mobile handsets and two-way radios. Nearly $1.5 million in cash donations supported relief organizations such as the Red Cross, the Hangzhou Economic Development Area Charity Foundation and Project Hope Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar Flooding in Ukraine Hurricane damage in Haiti Hurricane Dolly in Texas Monsoons in India Snowstorm in China Storms in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee Storms and flooding in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Wisconsin U.S. hurricane disaster recovery: A $200,000 cash donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and additional matches to employee donations totaling $25,000
Helping young people in distress We support the Samaritans, a charity that provides people in distress with 24-hour confidential emotional support in the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
