MATERIALS DISCLOSURE PROCESS

We require our suppliers to fully disclose material, substances of concern and recycled material content of each part supplied to Motorola. We do this to fully understand and track the material content of our products, so we can control and improve the environmental profile of our products.

Motorola has taken a precautionary approach and compiled a list of 61 substances targeted for exclusion, reduction or reporting during the design and manufacture of our products. The list is divided into three sections:

• Banned substances are not allowed for use in any Motorola product at any level.
• Controlled substances are limited for use in manufacturing processes or certain product applications. The use limitations are typically defined by national or international environmental regulations.
• Reportable substances are not currently banned or controlled for use, but a ban or voluntary phase out is likely or they have an impact on the end-of-life management of the finished product.

Our reporting requirements help us to meet current and future laws that restricts certain hazardous substances in our products. Learn more about key legislation.

Compliance with Motorola's Controlled and Reportable Material Disclosure Specification (W18) is required to qualify parts supplied to Motorola.

How to disclose material content to Motorola

NOTE: W18 was last updated to revision M on May 15, 2008.

Controlled and reportable materials disclosure (19 page PDF; 81.5 KB): This document related to the W18 Rev. M sets forth Motorola's materials disclosure requirements for items and materials used in the manufacture and delivery of products to Motorola customers. A list of substances that Motorola has targeted for exclusion, reduction or reporting is included in Appendix A.

Reference list of substances (40 page PDF; 96.9 KB): This document helps with identifying and defining the substances and substance families contained in the W18 Rev. M specification.

Additional resources and training: To help suppliers comply with the W18 Rev. M specification, Motorola provides additional resources and training.

Compliance Connect™ (.zip file of application, 2.98 MB): All W18 disclosures must be provided using Compliance Connect, a reporting tool developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG). The AIAG Compliance Connect software is an industry-standard collection tool for automobile manufacturers that has been adopted by Motorola. The software is Microsoft Excel-based (with required licenses) and must be downloaded, unzipped and installed to perform a disclosure. See the Material Disclosure: W18 Specification and AIAG Compliance Connect User Guide (27 page PDF; 412 KB) for more details on using this tool.

ELV-1: Data Exchange Guideline for End-of-Life Vehicles: It is possible to upload material content data from an internal database to the AIAG Compliance Connect sheet as long as all required data is reported. Please consult the AIAG website or, specifically, AIAG's 2008-2009 Publications Catalog (11 page PDF; 434 KB) for more information.

IPC 1752-1 Reporting Form (3 page PDF; 71 KB): With prior authorization, Motorola allows use of the IPC 1752-1 reporting form, Declaration Class "3" or better, in specific limited applications. The IPC 1752-1 Reporting Form is Adobe Reader-based and must be downloaded here to submit a disclosure. See the IPC 1752 Users Guide (9 page PDF; 62 KB) for more details on using this tool.

W18 and materials reporting information in other languages: In addition to English, the Compliance Connect User Guide and the W18 specifications and a training presentations are available in Simplified Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
