MIKE PELLON
Vice President, Standards and Commercialization

Mike Pellon is vice president of Standards and Commercialization within the Motorola Applied Research Center. He is responsible for establishing leading positions for Motorola technology in industry alliances and standards organizations for wireless communications, converged services for mobile and fixed networks, consumer electronics, and industrial applications. Pellon is also responsible for leading the Center solutions teams in the areas of security research, experiences research, video solutions, next-generation video, and the public safety multimedia.

His current research projects include the research initiatives around next-generation Video and public safety multimedia. As consumers increasingly want to access content and information in new ways, the Next-Generation Video Initiative is aimed at creating an integrated platform that will offer consumers interactive and on-demand services. Pellon and his team are working to transform the experience of television from a one-way, scheduled, broadcast service to an interactive, on-demand service that is personalized for consumers. This transformation will change business models in the industry and create new services for industry participants and consumers.

In partnership with Motorola's Enterprise Mobility Solutions-Government & Public Safety business, Pellon is also developing technologies that will allow for the management of video records and information together with the voice and text information currently used by Public Safety agencies. The Public Safety Multimedia Initiative aims to make video a viable source of information managed by public safety agencies in rendering service to the public. Video has the potential to enhance citizens' safety and provide a cost-effective means of improving the operation of a public safety agency and its law enforcement duties.

Before assuming his current position, Pellon spent five years in Motorola's Messaging Business as a general manager responsible for various businesses in the U.S. and Latin America. He has also served as vice president and general manager of Motorola's Wireless Messaging Division.

Pellon's career has included leadership roles in both corporate functions and business units. He lived in the U.K. for five years and served as vice president and director of Government Relations for Motorola's headquarters in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Within the Motorola communication businesses, he has served as product manager, led a strategic marketing team for the land mobile systems business and held sales management positions for enterprise accounts.

Pellon received a Bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College and a Master's in Business Administration from Georgia State University. He has served on the management boards of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization as well as the Wireless World Research Forum.
