Motorola Energy Systems Group Introduces Testing Laboratories Services For Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)

ATLANTA, January 17, 2001 - The Energy Systems Group (ESG) of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a business unit of the company's Integrated Electronic Systems Sector (IESS), today announced the introduction of its Testing Laboratories services to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Motorola Energy Systems Group Testing Laboratories is a full service organization that provides testing, compliance, research, and consulting services to original equipment manufactures of consumer electronic products. With their extensive experience in testing and their established relationships with regulatory agencies - including the Underwriters Laboratories' (UL) - Motorola Energy Systems Group Testing Laboratories can assist in the reduction of product design time for OEMs' who are developing and manufacturing today's consumer products. 

According to last week's data from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), sales of consumer electronics goods will surpass $95.6 billion in 2001. The growth in this industry can be attributed to the increasing demand for communication devices that suit consumers' active lifestyles.

Motorola Energy Systems Group Testing Laboratories offers design and research assistance in meeting and understanding the wide range of regulatory requirements (safety and electromagnetic compatibility) for portable electronics for the world markets. They also perform pre-certification compliance verification testing as well as full agency certification testing evaluation and report preparation in the areas of information technology (IT) equipment standards, CE (European Community) marking for compliance and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) compliance verification testing. In addition, they perform testing services such as verifying the power consumption and run-time performance of portable consumer products, thermal analysis of chargers and associated devices, and life testing and capacity verification of cells and batteries.
