ATLANTA, October 1, 2001 - The Energy Systems Group (ESG) Testing Laboratories of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), today announced the expansion of its testing capabilities with the addition of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and environmental testing services. Motorola Energy Systems Group Testing Laboratories (ESG Testing Labs) is a full service organization that provides testing, compliance, research, and consulting services to independent design houses and original equipment manufacturers. ESG Testing Labs offers comprehensive testing services with experienced program management to meet product development time-to-market requirements.
With its extensive experience in testing and established relationships with regulatory agencies - including the Underwriters Laboratories' (UL) - ESG Testing Labs can assist in the reduction of product design time for original equipment manufacturers who are developing and manufacturing today's consumer products.
"As the portable electronics industry evolves, customers are requiring that their product's testing is expedited and that these services are at a competitive price," said Mike Robinson, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola Energy Systems Group. "ESG's prompt testing services provides competitive prices with the added value of expertise that comes from years of program management experience in testing and from certifying products for Motorola and other original equipment manufacturers."
The increasingly popular EMC testing assesses if an electronic device will cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) or will be susceptible to EMI generated by other electronic devices. EMC testing is required for virtually all electronic devices as a prerequisite to market release in many of the major world markets including the United States, Europe and Asia. ESG Testing Labs also performs environmental testing services to assess the reliability of a product design, thereby ensuring that a device will operate as developed, for a specified duration, under a given set of conditions. Environmental test regimes typically employ combinations of thermal, humidity, mechanical, and electrical stresses to accelerate the aging process, thus reducing test times to a matter of days or weeks for a typical electronic product.
