There are 4 Steps to updating your software:
It is highly recommended you back up important user information you may need after your upgrade. This includes items such as contacts, downloaded applications, and text messages.

This software upgrade is intended for MOTOROLA FLIPSIDE™ with MOTOBLUR™ owners who want to upgrade to Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) software with enhanced MOTOBLUR.
Since this new software adds new features and functionality to your phone, we recommend that you review this Things To Know FAQ. In addition, we also recommend reviewing the Release Notes and User Guide Inserts before deciding to upgrade.
MUST READ BEFORE PROCEEDING:
Requirements needed to ensure a successful upgrade.
1.1. A fully charged MOTOROLA FLIPSIDE with MOTOBLUR with an active SIM card
1.2. A microSD card installed in your phone with approximately 100 MB of free space.
1.3. Internal phone storage space approximately 40MB free. To make room for the exciting new features in this upgrade, your internal phone storage will be permanently reduced by approximately 40 MB. Therefore, you need at least this much space available to perform it. To check SD and Internal phone memory storage go to Menu >> Settings >> SD card and phone storage
1.4. Users must be on the latest version of Android 2.1 software To check Software version go to Menu >> Settings >> About Phone >> System version Version.1.23.20.MB508.ATT.en.US
1.5. Users cannot go back to Android 2.1 (1.23.20 SW) once the upgrade to Android 2.2 (2.159.17 SW) is completed.
Before proceeding, please check the box below acknowledging that you have read and fully understand Step 1 including the things to know FAQ and the requirements needed to ensure a successful upgrade.
I acknowledge that I have read and understood Step 1 and the requirements.
2.1. If your phone version is Blur_Version.1.23.20.MB508.ATT.en.US , Click here.
2.2. Download the file and save to your computer “Blur_Version.2.159.17.MB508.ATT.en.US.zip”.
2.3. The file can be saved on your PC.
NOTE: Some Internet Browsers (e.g. Safari and Chrome) can be configured to automatically extract downloaded zip files. Please ensure the file is not unzipped after saving it. The update requires use of the zipped file.
Once downloaded, you can connect your phone – Go to Step 3 for help in ensuring your phone is in the right mode for successful connection
*Note: After upgrading, some widgets and shortcuts used in Version 2.1 may not work. For example, widgets for Music and Youtube as well as shortcuts for Dialer application, Music application, MobileBank application, Gmail label, Contact, Direction&Navigation and bookmark may not work.You may need to re-add them
To change the phone as USB mass storage mode
3.1. Ensure your phone screen is unlocked.
3.2. Connect the USB cable to your PC and your phone.
3.3. Your phone will beep (normal mode) or vibrate (silent mode).
3.4. A "USB connection" notification will appear on the screen of your phone. Tap and pull down the notification bar at the top of the screen and tap "USB connection" then select “Memory card access”



3.5. If your phone does not recognize the USB connection, please turn the phone off then on and follow steps from 1. again.
3.6. The drive will appear under "My Computer" as a "Removable Disk".
To drag & drop software into microSD card
3.7. On your computer, go to the location where the software was downloaded in Step 2.2
3.8. Identify the downloaded file from step 2.2 - “Blur_Version.2.159.17.MB508.ATT.en.US.zip"
3.9. Drag and drop the download zip file onto your microSD. It
must be at the top level of the microSD card
-- it cannot be in a sub-folder.

3.10. Wait until copying is done.
3.11. Unmount SD Card from your computer
- For Windows, select the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the System Tray, then select Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device, you will see a notification stating Safe To Remove Hardware (View Example )
- For MACs, select the Eject button in the Finder next to the SD Card Device
3.12. Unplug your USB cable from your phone.
NOTE: If your microSD card does not have sufficient space, the software package will not copy. In order to copy the software package to your device, you will need approximately 100 MB of SD Card memory available. To learn more about your SD Card memory, please read the Phone and SD Card Memory FAQ.
Make sure your battery is fully charged so that you don't run out of power during the upgrade process.
To install the update:
4.1. From the home screen, press Menu, select Settings,(View Example )
4.2. Scroll down and select About Phone.(View Example )
4.3. Select System Updates. (View Example )
4.4. After a couple of minutes, your device will confirm the update is available.
4.5. The Copy prompt will appear. Select “Copy”(View Example )
4.6. The Install Update prompt will appear. Select Install Now. (View Example )
4.7. Your device will power off and display installation progress.(View Example )
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Please ensure you are aware of the following information after the installation of the package
- The phone will automatically power up and stay on the AT&T logo for up to 5 minutes before powering on to the home screen.
- Please do not interrupt this process.
- Contacts and email from Google and MOTOBLUR may take up to 60 minutes to synchronize. The phone may appear slower during this initial synchronization process.

Please perform the following steps on your device to restore your settings and others:
System Settings:
Ringtone Volume and Wallpaper settings.( Menu >>Settings>>Sound / Wallpaper) ,
Display settings ( Menu >>Settings >>Display) ,
Security settings ( Menu >>Settings >>Location and security),
Contacts: Re-link any previously linked contacts and also recreate any contact shortcuts on your home screen
Application Shortcuts: Restore any shortcuts or widgets to your new home screen.
SD Card Data: If you deleted data from your SD Card to perform this upgrade, you may now transfer it back.
NOTE: When your upgrade completes successfully, delete the downloaded zip file from your SD card. This is important for your ability to receive future updates.
Please read the following steps to delete the file from the phone’s SD card.
- Connect the USB cable to your desktop and your phone.
- A "USB connection" notification will appear .Tap and pull down the notification bar at the top of the screen and tap "USB connection" then select “USB Mass Storage”
- If your phone does not recognize the USB connection, please

disconnect the USB connection and
- The drive will appear under "My Computer" as a "Removable Disk".
- Select the downloaded zip file (which should be located at the top folder of the Removable Disk Drive)
- Right click and select “Delete”
